THE SEARCH

The Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System (UW System) seeks nominations and applications for the next chancellor of the University of Wisconsin- River Falls (UWRF or UW-River Falls). This is an opportunity to lead a beloved institution, located in scenic Western Wisconsin and officially considered part of the socioeconomically dynamic Twin Cities metropolitan area. The next chancellor will work with committed students, employees and external partners to boldly lead UW-River Falls as it invigorates its academic enterprise and embraces a renewed commitment to equity, inclusion and social justice. UWRF plays a vital role in the community, region and state, preparing students with the essential skills and competencies needed for successful careers, while instilling a lifelong appreciation for service and learning. Hallmarks of the UWRF experience include close relationships between staff, faculty and students; a commitment to shared governance and inclusive leadership; pursuit of student-centered academic excellence; promotion of high impact practices as critical to ensuring student success; and being positioned as key contributors to one of the most economically vibrant, rapidly growing regions in the Midwest.

The next chancellor will bring an appreciation for the values and traditions that have engendered a deep sense of loyalty and care for UWRF among alumni, friends, faculty and its approximately 6,000 students, while also looking ahead to future opportunities and setting a vision that will take the university in bold new directions and ensure a bright future. The ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial, experienced, and decisive leader with the skills and acumen to rapidly advance a clear vision for the institution. They will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, the communities of Pierce and St. Croix counties and the greater St. Croix Valley region, alumni, the sister institutions in the UW System, and other constituencies.

Candidates should have a record of successful organizational leadership; a deep understanding of the challenging environment currently impacting regional public higher education; a studied, strategic eye towards enrollment management and student success; the ability to build and cultivate financial support for the university and its programs from both public and private sources; and documented accomplishments in creating and supporting a climate of openness, understanding, and mutual respect.

The chancellor serves as the chief executive officer of UWRF and reports to the president of the UW System and its Board of Regents, whose offices reside in Madison, the state capital. The chancellor works alongside the 12 other chancellors of the UW System’s component institutions, and UWRF has a history of beneficial collaborations with neighboring UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout, and others. The chancellor will implement a compelling and distinctive strategic vision that competitively positions UWRF within one of the nation’s most robust higher education systems. The next leader will ensure that UW-River Falls and its region are valued by the Regents and the System, and that the institution’s impact is known throughout Wisconsin and beyond not only for its educational mission but also for contributing to a strong talent pipeline and robust economic growth.
