The Linux DevOps Engineer ensures the deployment, high availability, performance, and scalability of Letters and Sciences IT instructional services in a 24/7 x 365 production environment. Reports to the Director of Infrastructure and works with department groups, in particular with the Instructional Technology and Infrastructure units. Collaborates with the Director of Instructional Technology and team developers to maintain an up-to-date environment and to research, analyze, and solve software development and operational issues as they arise.

 

This position's primary responsibility is supporting the operations, development, testing, monitoring and deployment for systems that comprise Gauchospace which is UCSB's learning management system (LMS) that is based on Moodle. Gauchospace is a 24/7 service that provides a flexible instructional platform for more than 23,000 undergraduates.

 

Responsible for organizing documentation for the entire application stack that describes deployment and operation of multiple test, dev, and production environments. Participates in the development and implementation of the product and share responsibility for code reviews and ensuring the technical quality of the product deliverables. This role ensures controls are in place to support principles of change management. Additionally, ensures delivered solutions meet requirements as provided by the Gauchospace instructional team.

 

Requirements: 3+ years’ experience in Linux systems administration, preferably RedHat/CentOS. Minimum 3+ years’ experience in systems/application programming. (PHP, Bash, Python, Ruby, etc. Strong understanding of TCP/IP and other network protocols. Strong understanding of MySQL DB system management. Experience with systems virtualization and cloud deployment and computing. Demonstrated software development and IT operations experience. Demonstrated experience with configuration management and revision control tools such as Ansible and Git. Demonstrated experience with production systems, application and network monitoring tools

 

Salary commensurate with knowledge, training, and experience.

 

Notes: Satisfactory criminal history background check. Will be required to occasionally work outside of a typical (Monday - Friday) schedule for both routine and emergency repair/installation/maintenance of equipment and/or software as required. Required to wear a cell phone to receive emergency notifications.
