The University of Maine System is seeking to hire a Department Head for Library Academic Support Initiatives. The work location is the University of Maine in Orono at the Raymond H. Fogler Library. The Department Head for Library Academic Support Initiatives provides support for Fogler Library to further the access to library resources, both purchased and created in-house. Plans for, creates, or responds to library initiatives that help disseminate, preserve, or otherwise make library resources available now and for the future. All work and initiatives are to provide for support for teaching, learning, and research and to facilitate learner success. Support may extend to other UMS libraries that share software or technologies.

 

Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the annual salary range is low $60s to low $80s plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents.  The UMS is a recipient of the Wellness Councils of America’s Well Workplace Award and offers a wellness program.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • Experience in technology planning, implementations, and contingency planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to act independently and exhibit considerable judgment, initiative, and creativity and to effectively troubleshoot technical problems, isolate causes, and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrated flexibility in a changing environment.
  • Ability to engage in self-directed learning about emerging technologies.
  • Significant management and supervisory skills.
  • A record of timely responsiveness and communication with collaborators and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated collaborative and teamwork experience and skills.
  • Working knowledge of Hyper-V virtualization, VM Ware, or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols; TCP/IP networking; working knowledge of Linux servers.
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.

 

Preferred:

  • MLS (ALA accredited)
  • Experience in an academic, library, or archives environment
  • Experience insupporting technology applications and end-users
  • Experience with Windows Server operating systems, Linux, and other network technologies
