Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs

The University of Houston-Downtown invites nomination and applications for the position of Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs (AVPAA). The AVPAA reports directly to the Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Provost and works in collaboration with a strong team of professionals throughout the University. The successful candidate is an important member of the Provost’s Executive Team who will collaborate with key stakeholders to provide principled leadership.

Founded in 1974, UHD is a comprehensive, federally-designated Hispanic-serving four-year public university offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees aimed at career preparation. UHD is part of the University Of Houston System and is located on a 40-acre campus in Downtown Houston, Texas with satellite campuses in north Harris County. One of the most diverse institutions in the nation, UHD currently enrolls over 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students that reflect the diversity of the Greater Houston area.

The Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs (AVPAA) will lead the development of a strategic vision and plan for academic innovation that enhances UHD’s identity and commitments and aligns with institutional priorities. The AVPAA is responsible for administering and overseeing efforts related to accreditation, assessment, cultivation and strengthening of partnerships, retention and graduation efforts, and new academic affairs initiatives. In addition, the AVPAA provides leadership for the office of Data Analytics and Institutional Research, the office of Assessment and Accreditation, and for the division of Continuing Education. The ideal candidate would possess a broad base of experience as a Dean, Assistant VPAA, Department Chair or other comparable leadership positions within the Academy within a strong college or university setting.
