Dean, College of Education and Behavioral Sciences

University of Northern Colorado (UNC) seeks an innovative, visionary, strategic and creative dean with exceptional leadership, administrative and interpersonal skills to lead the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences (CEBS).

Founded in 1889, tucked between the Rocky Mountains and Colorado’s stunning high plains, the University of Northern Colorado has grown from its roots as a teacher’s college into an institution with international draw and status. UNC is a public doctoral research university that strives to cultivate the unique potential of each of its 12,000 students. Acclaimed for its expertise in education, business, health sciences and performing arts, UNC offers more than 100 undergraduate programs and 120 graduate programs in a broad array of academic disciplines on campus, off campus and online across five colleges.

The CEBS consists of three schools: psychological sciences; special education and teacher education; and five departments: applied statistics and research methods; applied psychology and counselor education; leadership, policy and development; school psychology; and American Sign Language and interpreting studies. All of these units provide high quality teaching and excellent academic programs at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. The CEBS includes approximately 3,300 students, 90 faculty and 38 staff.

The dean of CEBS is responsible for academic programs, fiscal resources and personnel within the college. The dean provides leadership to the college in support of faculty development and graduate and undergraduate education. In addition, the dean leads external fundraising efforts and is responsible for building relationships with the local community and state-level constituents. The dean will report to the provost and is expected to work collaboratively and in partnership with members of the provost’s leadership team and the university community.

It is expected that candidates will have a terminal degree in a discipline within the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences and will be able to meet the requirements of a full professor with doctoral research endorsement. Ideal candidates will also have academic administrative and supervisory experience at the rank of chair or higher but demonstrated equivalent experience will be considered. In addition, successful candidates will possess the following personal and professional characteristics: strong interpersonal and communication skills; innovative and visionary leadership acumen; and financial acuity and have experience overseeing complex budgets.
